The membership in the Order, and especially the granting of the sacrament of dubbing demands the
absolute irreproachability, integrity, and loyalty of the applicant from the knightly point of
view. An application for membership has to be recommended by two knights of the Order, which in
itself, however, is not sufficient. The competent authorities of the Order examine and decide on
the admission of the applicant. A negative decision needs not to be justified. An entitlement for
the admission does not exist in any case.

If the application for membership has been granted, the postulant at first enters the Order for a
probationary period of one year with the rank of squire. This period of squirehood serves to get
mutually acquainted and to find out whether the postulant is suited and whether the investiture
is really desired by him. The dubbing procedure follows the traditional rites. With the investiture
the postulant becomes knight of the Order and thus its regular member.
